About the National Federation of the Blind Writers' Division

The National Federation of the Blind Writers' Division began in 1982, as a place for writers to hang their hats at the U.S. National Federation of the Blind's annual convention. As the only organization of this kind in the world, we serve blind writers from Boston to San Francisco, from Bangladesh to South Africa, with material specifically designed to help visually disabled writers and others wishing to understand and write about issues important to the blind.

We sponsor two annual contests (see rules) and hold meetings and seminars at the annual NFB national convention. We also publish a quarterly magazine, Slate & Style (see writers' guidelines). Besides containing articles of general interest to writers, the magazine addresses the particular needs and concerns of visually disabled writers. Subscription to Slate & Style in your choice of Braille, cassette, large print, or e-mail is included in Division membership.

Finally, for those with Internet access, we offer an e-mail discussion list, Stylist. To join, e-mail David Andrews or visit the Stylist page at NFBNET.org. (This link opens in a new window.) You do not need to be a member of the division to join the discussion group. though we encourage list members to join the Division as well.
