Bob Gardner uses his white cane to find an empty city bus seat.


Bob Gardner is the 2nd vice president of the NFB of Illinois, and president of the Blackhawk Chapter, his local chapter which serves the Quad-Cities in northwest Illinois.

Bob writes mainly fiction, both short stories and novels, though neither of his two novels have been published. He has written one story for the Kernel books, and has had two articles published in the Braille Monitor. The last Braille Monitor story, “Travel Class From Hell,” published in 2007, relates an event while he was a student at BLIND, Inc.

Bob is a retired mechanical engineer, working most of his career as a civilian engineer for the U.S. Army. He has degrees from Purdue University and Stanford University.
